Undergraduate study - 2024 entry

Moving On

Moving On is a three-day course that will help you transition to university by bridging the gap between your studies at school or college and your undergraduate studies at university.

Moving On takes place prior to Welcome Week and is designed to build your confidence before the start of your degree. It provides an opportunity for you to learn about and experience the different style of learning and support at university in a supportive environment with other new students.

What's involved?

You will experience some University teaching, participate in workshops and tutorials, give a presentation, meet other new students and, we hope, make new friends.

You will get the opportunity to visit the university’s different campuses and the main library. You’ll attend sessions covering skills such as note-taking in lectures and speaking in tutorials. You also prepare your own presentations, which they deliver to small groups of their peers at the end of the course.

The course is free to attend. Funding may be available to help you cover your travel or childcare costs.

Can I join?

Moving On is for LEAPS-eligible students who have not attended the LEAPS Summer School; college students entering from an HN background; and students who reside in an area of relative deprivation, as defined by the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD).

How do I join?

If you have received an offer of a place at Edinburgh and you are eligible to take part in the Moving On programme, we will send you information on how to join in the June before to the start of your studies.
