Getting your SQA results: what you need to know
Advice for applicants receiving their Higher results.
Your application status
When we receive Higher results, we make decisions for candidates holding conditional offers.
You can check the status of your application through the UCAS Hub.
Don't worry if your application status has not yet been updated. Occasionally it takes slightly longer for us to receive some results. If this is the case, we will email you and advise that you will receive your decision soon and explain if there is anything you need to do.
Some universities may be able to advise you of the reasons for a pending decision in UCAS Hub. We will not be doing this, but please be assured that we will email you directly if there are any actions you need to take.
Met your conditions?
If you have met the conditions of your offer your place will be confirmed automatically and you do not need to contact us to confirm your grades.
Log in to MyEd
Make sure you log in to your account on the MyEd website for information about what you should do next.
Read our new student guide
You should also check out our comprehensive guide to getting started as a new student.
Accommodation
You are guaranteed accommodation if you meet certain requirements.
Didn’t meet your conditions?
If you have not met the conditions of your offer, and we have been unable to confirm your place, you will find information on the UCAS Hub about your options. This may be information about an Insurance place (if applicable) or about Clearing options.
How to appeal
If you are unhappy with your assessed grades, you should use your exam board’s appeal process to request a review. We cannot appeal on your behalf. Your school or college should be able to help.
Tell us you are appealing
If you plan to appeal your grades, it is important that you let us know as soon as possible.
If your appeal is successful, and you receive SQA grades that meet your conditions by 4 September 2024, we will confirm your place for entry in September 2024, wherever possible.
If your appeal is successful, and you receive SQA grades that meet your conditions between 5 September and 31 December 2024, we will offer a deferred place for entry in September 2025.
Unfortunately, we are unable to accept grades awarded through a successful appeal after 31 December 2024.
Declining or deferring your place
Want to go to your insurance choice?
Do not release yourself into Clearing as this will make you lose your insurance choice.
If your offer at Edinburgh has been confirmed
First speak to your insurance choice to see if they still have a place for you. Once this has been confirmed, follow their instructions for next steps.
If you are still waiting for our decision
If you meet the conditions of your offer from your insurance choice and would like to go there instead, tell us through our enquiry form. We will reject your place at Edinburgh, which automatically gives you your place at your insurance choice.

Want to release yourself into Clearing?
If you want to look for a new place in Clearing at another university that is not your firm or insurance choice, we recommend you have your offer in writing from the other university before declining your offer with us.
You can release yourself from your offer by clicking on the 'Decline my place' button on your application in the UCAS Hub and following the instructions.
We may be able to consider some deferrals to start your studies in 2025-2026. Contact us through our form to let us know your degree programme details.

Clearing
Clearing for applicants with a fee status of ‘Scotland Fee Rate' is closed at Edinburgh.
If you are looking to take up a place through Clearing at another university, we recommend finding a vacancy first and then releasing yourself into Clearing.
