In case you haven’t heard, the University of Edinburgh's 2019/2020 Short Courses (Terms 1, 2, and 3) are now open for booking, and there are LOADS to choose from.

Last week, we rounded up some of our newest courses for you, and this week, we’ve cherry-picked a few goodies (from all of our terms) that might help you #GetInspired to learn something new this year.

From Science and Nature to Art History, here are our top five picks for 2019/2020.

Art & Design | Jewellery and Silversmithing: Foundation

Starts: Term 1; Monday 23 September, 2019

Jewellery buffs look no further! This 10-week course will help you hone your jewellery making skills including saw-piercing, soldering and shaping. You’ll also learn to work with a variety of materials including copper, brass and silver. By the end of the course, you’ll know how to make a ring in addition to creating a bespoke piece of your very own.

Art History | History of Modern Fashion

Starts: Term 1; Wednesday 25 September, 2019

This course takes you on a journey over the past 200 years of fashion from the French Revolution to today with a mix of practical and theoretical approaches. You’ll analyse a broad range of looks from French couture to bohemian and postmodernist styles. You’ll also cover topics such as gender issues in fashion.

Archaeology | The Vikings

Starts:  Term 2; Tuesday 14 January, 2020

If you find yourself fascinated by these Scandinavian explorers, then this 10-week course is for you. Diving deep into their culture, Viking settlements, maritime technology and religion, this course also explores the most important archaeological sites from this time period and discusses the impact the Vikings had on modern European culture. You'll cover the Viking sites in Scotland too including their interactions with the local people.

Science and Nature | Marine Biology and Ecology: Field Trip

Starts: Term 3;  Saturday 11 April, 2020

Get out and explore the rocky shores around Edinburgh for yourself. You’ll have the chance to get acquainted with the local flora and fauna while learning the survival adaptations and techniques they've developed to make it in our current challenging environment.

 Creative Writing | Writing Drama for Radio 

Starts: Term 3; Tuesday 14 April, 2020

If you love a radio drama or an audio story, this 10-week course allows you to put one together first hand. Not only will you explore the dynamics and scope of what makes an effective radio drama broadcast, but by the end of the course you’ll have written and presented your own dramatic dialogue and radio script.
