"Sanctuary: Film" is free and open to all displaced people in the local community who would like to join us.

 

"Sanctuary: Film" is a project connected to the Sanctuary English Language Classes at the Centre for Open Learning through our English Language Education (ELE) team. 

"Sanctuary: Film" is free and open to all displaced people in the local community who would like to join us.  (Please note that this offer to watch Scottish themed films together is open to any status of displaced person whether refugee, asylum seeker, limited leave to remain, Homes for Ukraine, Hong Kong migrant, Afghan or Syrian resettlement programmes,  or any other associated status.)

We would like to welcome those arriving in Edinburgh and offer a space to come together, enjoy film, and create a closer community.

We are screening 5 films inspired by or set in Scotland - these free screenings will take place over five Thursdays in February and March at 18:15, in Paterson's Land’s, room LG34.

The Illusionist -  Thursday 2nd February, 18:15

The Illusionist (dir. S. Chomet, 2010) - a French illusionist finds himself out of work and travels to Scotland, where he meets a young woman. Their adventures changes both their lives forever.

Restless Natives - Thursday 9th February, 18:15

Restless Natives (dir. M. Hoffman, 1985) - two Scottish friends become local folk heroes and tourist attractions when they start holding up tour buses with novelty items.

Highlander - Thursday 23rd February, 18:15

Highlander (dir. R. Mulcahy, 1986) - an immortal Scottish swordsman must confront the last of his immortal opponent, a murderously brutal barbarian who lusts for the fabled "Prize".

Brigadoon - Thursday 2nd March, 18:15

Brigadoon (dir. V. Minnelli, 1954) - two Americans on a hunting trip in Scotland become lost. They encounter a small village, not on the map, called Brigadoon, in which people harbor a mysterious secret, and behave as if they were still living two hundred years in the past.

Robert the Bruce - Thursday 9th March, 18:15

Robert the Bruce (dir. R. Gray, 2019) - the story of the nobleman-turned-outlaw hero who was crowned king of Scots in the 14th century.
