About the School
Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) is internationally recognised and is situated at the heart of one of Europe’s most vibrant and creative capital cities.
We performed exceptionally well in the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014. Across all of our submissions, 100 per cent of our research environment profile ratings were either 4* world leading or 3* internationally excellent. In art and design: history, practice and theory, we were ranked seventh in the UK for research power (Research Fortnight REF 2014). In music, drama, dance and performing arts we were ranked in the UK top 20 for both research quality and research power (Research Fortnight REF 2014). In our joint submission with Heriot-Watt University for architecture, built environment and planning 73 per cent of our research was ranked 4* world leading or 3* internationally excellent on the overall quality profile.
