Welcome Week 2020
Information about Welcome Week and what to expect, including the fun activities that are included to help you prepare and be ready to start your studies.
Welcome Week 2020: Monday 14th September - Sunday 20th September 2020
“Welcome Week” is the week prior to the first week of the academic semester: 2020/2021 Semester Dates
Welcome Week will commence from Monday 14th September and while we know some of you may not be able to join us in Edinburgh straight away, we are working hard to ensure that there will be lots of opportunities and support available to you both online and in-person before you start your studies.
All areas of the University are excited to meet you and together we are putting together a hybrid programme of exciting and essential activities to help you get settled into University. This will be a new experience for us all, but rest assured that there will be lots of opportunities within Welcome Week and for the continuing weeks to get involved.
All of the induction activities that we are organising will provide you with essential information to get started, opportunities to network, explore and contribute to, and provide you with that first and lasting connection to the University.
The full Welcome Week 2020 programme of induction activities will go live on the 'UoE Events app' from mid-August. Download the app from any app store from the 3oth June 2020
Please check your emails regularly for direct communications, including information about specific activities nearer to the start date too.
Types of induction activities during Welcome Week:
School/Programme Induction activities (essential):
Your school/programme induction is the most important to attend and will likely take place within Welcome Week. Please be assured the information that your school provides will also be available for you to see afterwards.
You will receive direct email communication from your school/programme prior to Welcome Week in August with a specific induction outline, for your programme, including further information about how to attend.
Your school/programme induction activities will provide you with ways to connect to your classmates, help you feel part of the community and understand what is expected of you and how you can succeed in your studies.
University Induction activities:
Welcome Week is more than just introducing you to your new subject area, it is also about getting to know your new home, getting to know fellow students and trying out new things.
There will be large community events that will take place online to formally welcome all new students to the University and many smaller in-person activities to help you get to know your neighbours and the city.
There will be a specific welcome programme for all Postgraduate students and there will be lots of ways to explore your interests and hobbies too, with society and sports clubs activities.
Whilst your school/programme inductions are essential, we highly recommend that where possible you attend what you want to during this welcome period.
More information will continue to be added to this webpage as we get closer to Welcome Week.
