January Welcome - What's On for all students

Find out more about what's on in January and how to get involved.

We look forward to welcoming both new and current students. Throughout January there will be lots of fun and informative activities, on campus and online. It is a great opportunity for all students to get involved, meet other students, and settle back into campus life. 


January Welcome is the time before the first week of the academic semester, starting on Wednesday 8th January - Friday 10th January: 2024/2025 Semester Dates

There will be welcome events happening for visiting and exchange students joining. Please check your emails for further information about these events and to book your place. 

This is a dedicated time created for you, to get to know Edinburgh, and your campuses, meet fellow students and academics, and get a sense of the University life that awaits you. 

Mandatory events 

Your school welcome events will be mandatory to attend. You will receive separate email communications from your school to meet them and about any school welcome events.

Join Our Exciting QR Hunt Games!

Explore and play two new QR hunt games on the University’s Events App, running between 13th and 26th January 2025. Get ready for both online and on-campus games with prizes to be won! See the ‘QR Hunt Games’ folder in the app for game instructions.

Game 1: QR Quest - Find Your Student Services 

Choose to play fully online or combined online and in-person searches. Start with the first clue in the game instructions on the app. Use the in-app QR scanner to collect parts of the hidden game phrase from QR codes on campus and online. Once complete, follow the link to the answer form, paste the phrase, and enter your details for a chance to win.  

Prizes: 

  • First Place: £50 voucher for the University Gift Shop 
  • Five Random Winners: £20 vouchers  

Game 2: Seek and Scan - Central Campus Fun Hunt 

Played in-person between 9am and 4pm, this game will help you to uncover some interesting features around central campus. The first clue can be found within the game instructions on the app. The clues can be challenging, so feel free to use the internet for help in solving them. Once you find a QR code, use the in-app scanner which will reveal part of the hidden phrase. Once complete, follow the link to the answer form, paste the phrase, and enter your details for a chance to win.  

Prizes: 

  • First Place: £50 voucher for the University’s Cafes 
  • Five Random Winners: £20 vouchers 

 

Give it a Go Week - 13th - 19th January 2025

This week gives you a chance to get involved with the many activities and student groups at the University of Edinburgh. It's a chance for you to explore new activities and maybe even discover a new passion for 2025.

 

There will be three fairs, offering you the chance to learn more about volunteering groups, societies, and international and multicultural student groups. 

 

There will be evening events including, a Taste of Scotland Ceilidh and this year's club night event Massaoke 90s vs 20s sing-along with a live band.
