Information about Welcome Week and what to expect, including the fun activities that are included to help you prepare and be ready to start your studies.
Welcome Week 2020: Monday 14 September to Sunday 20 September 2020
Welcome Week is the week prior to the first week of the academic semester. Welcome Week will commence from Monday 14 September 2020.
Hybrid programme of exciting and essential activities
All areas of the University are excited to meet you and together we are putting together a hybrid programme of exciting and essential activities to help you get settled into University. The induction activities will provide you with all of the information you need to get started, opportunities to network, explore and contribute to, and give you with that first and lasting connection to the University.
We know that some of you will not be able to join us for Welcome Week but most of the opportunities will be accessible to you through digital platforms and many of the activities will be repeated and or recorded and shared after Welcome Week.
Explore your new home
If you are planning to be on-campus for Welcome Week, it is important that you focus this time to get to know your surroundings, your new home, and the safety guidelines in place in Scotland, which may differ from your home country. There are lots of places that are open and safe to engage with as long as you keep a safe two metre distance from other people and wear a face covering when entering shops and public transport.
Plan your induction schedule
The full Welcome Week 2020 programme of induction activities is live on the UoE Events app. Download the app from any app store.
Please check your emails regularly for direct communications, including information about specific activities nearer to the start date.
Essential induction events
Your School induction activities are the most essential to attend. By participating, you will receive the information about your courses, the expectations of you and the chance to meet your fellow students.
Your School or programme induction is the most important to attend and will likely take place within Welcome Week. The information that your School provides will also be available for you to see afterwards.
You will receive direct email communication from your School or programme from 17 August 2020 onwards confirming the details of your induction activities and how to attend.
Don't miss out on emails from your School
Optional (but highly recommended) induction events
Welcome Week is more than just introducing you to your new subject area, it is also about getting to know your new home, getting to know fellow students and trying out new things.
There will be large community events that will take place online to formally welcome all new students to the University and many smaller in-person activities to help you get to know your neighbours and the city.
There will be a specific welcome programme for all Postgraduate students and there will be lots of ways to explore your interests and hobbies too, with society and sports clubs activities.
