Get ready for January Welcome 2021
Information about January Welcome and what to expect, including the fun activities which will help you prepare and be ready to start your studies.
January Welcome 2021
If you are a visiting student joining us in January for Semester 2, you will receive direct email communication from the relevant Visiting Student Office confirming the details of your induction activities.
Hybrid programme of exciting and essential activities
We are so excited to meet you! All areas of the University are working together to create a hybrid programme of exciting and essential activities to help you get settled into University. Our induction activities will give you all of the information you need to get started, along with opportunities to network, explore, contribute and give you that first and lasting connection to the University.
If you are not able to join us on campus for January Welcome, don't worry - you can access most of our opportunities through digital platforms, and many of the activities will be repeated and/or recorded and shared after January Welcome.
Explore your new home
If you are planning to be on campus, we recommend you use this time to get to know your surroundings, your new home, and the safety guidelines in place in Scotland, which may differ from your home country. There are lots of places that are open and safe to engage with, as long as you keep a safe two-metre distance from other people and wear a face covering when entering shops and public transport.
Plan your induction schedule
You can find the full programme of January induction activities on the UoE Events app. Download the app from any app store.
Please check your emails regularly for direct communications, including information about specific activities nearer to the start date.
Essential induction events
Your School induction activities are where you will receive information about your courses, what to expect and the chance to meet your fellow students. These are essential to attend.
Your School or programme induction is the most important to attend and will likely take place 5-8th January. The information provided by your School will also be available for you to see afterwards.
You will receive direct email communication from your School or programme confirming the details of your induction activities and how to attend.
Don't miss out on emails from your School
Optional (but highly recommended) induction events
January Welcome is more than just introducing you to your new subject area, it is also about getting to know your new home, meeting fellow students and trying out new things.
There will be large community events taking place online to formally welcome all new students to the University, and many smaller in-person activities to help you get to know your neighbours and the city.
