When to Arrive
Look out for the important dates and times in order to travel to Edinburgh and begin your studies.
It is important that you keep track of the dates of arrival before you get to the University.
Welcome Week 2019 (Saturday 7th September - Sunday 15th September 2019)
Welcome Week 2019 officially runs from Monday 9th to Sunday 15th September 2019 (includes Arrival weekend of 7th & 8th September).
More information about Welcome Week
Starting in September
If you are planning to arrange your travel for September, we would recommend that you book travel to arrive on Arrival Weekend, Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th of September (and not before this time). If you are planning to live in the University of Edinburgh accommodation, you will not be able to move into University accommodation earlier than this date, unless you have been specifically told otherwise (usually due to an earlier course start date - see below).
If you are planning to arrive earlier to Edinburgh than your accommodation move-in date, it is important that you find somewhere to stay on a temporary basis.
Visas for travel
Your visa is valid for travel to the UK from the "valid from" date on the visa itself. This date is the earliest point that you can arrive in the UK on your visa.
Courses starting mid-semester/earlier than the semester/January
Students who are beginning their studies any time out with the University arrival periods in September and January should discuss with their Supervisor and/or School Office dates for arrival.
