What you will do
By getting involved in Insights, you’ll get involved in a programme of support and activities that can be managed alongside your studies and other commitments.
Hear from graduates based in Scotland or overseas
The Insights Programme is a great opportunity to find out about different types of careers and sectors directly from the Edinburgh alumni who are working in these fields.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the University decided to re-design the 2020 in person Insights Programme to be exclusively online. Due to the success of several online weeks delivered since, this is now an integral part of the Insights Programme and will run again two times during the 2021/22 academic year:
- Over 4 weeks 01 – 24 November 2021
- Over 1 week 21-25 February 2022 (Flexible Learning Week)
Insights Programme 2021/22
The Insights Programme 2021/22 will be an engaging and interactive experience, where you will work entirely online in your groups to gain an insight into job sectors and careers of alumni, and develop skills in networking and professional behaviours.
In your groups, you'll have a unique opportunity to speak to 3-4 Edinburgh alumni (former students at the University) in an informal and friendly setting, and ask them about their careers and anything else you want to know about what it’s like to live and work where they do.
You'll also complete a short personal reflection on what you've learned during your Insights experience.
You'll get lots of support to prepare you for all these activities, including online skills workshops and a bank of information resources, as well as a PhD student for each group to support you with your project throughout.
We expect that you will need to commit between 15-20 hours to the activities during the experience, making this a light and valuable Programme. The Programme is completely free to take part in. If you feel like there are any financial barriers to taking part, please contact us.
I would recommend [Insights Online] to other students because it gives a great opportunity to gain skills of networking, resilience and digital skills. In addition, it allows you to connect with alumni and to hear career stories which would not really be possible otherwise. I think it has also been great in showing how to use LinkedIn and find alumni and make connections through there.
