Register as a student
The process by which you will be formally admitted to the University of Edinburgh is called matriculation. Registration is one step of that process and is required for all new students, including online distance learners.
Registration confirms your acceptance of the University of Edinburgh’s regulations, and is the first step in you being formally admitted as a student to the University, or matriculating.
When to register as a student
Approximately 4 weeks prior to your programme start date, and if you hold an unconditional firm offer, registration will be available in your MyEd Student Personal Details channel. This channel is accessed from the Accounts tab in MyED.
You will receive an email to your University of Edinburgh email account to let you know when this online form is available for you to complete. You should complete registration as soon as possible to start the matriculation process and signify your intention to take up your place at Edinburgh.
How to register as a student
Log in to EUCLID and you will see an invitation to register.
- Log in to EUCLID (requires your Universitylogin details)
You will be asked to provide some basic information, including:
- personal and emergency contact details
- previous qualifications
- confirmation that you wish to accept or decline a programme place
- confirmation that you have read and accept the University of Edinburgh’s regulations

A confirmation message will display on screen once you have completed registration.
International Check In
If you are an international student joining us from outside the UK, EU or EEA, you will be required to complete International Check In before your registration can be confirmed. This involves uploading an image of your passport, visa and entry stamp, and then attending an in-person check at the University.
The University has a legal obligation to make sure that all students have suitable immigration permission to study in the United Kingdom.

Next matriculation steps
Registration is the first step you need to take in order to fully matriculate. Your School will contact you for details of the next step in the process, which will include international check in (if this applies to you), and confirming your attendance.
