Student Recruitment & Admissions
Edinburgh. Extraordinary futures await.

August 2022 results

Our Director of Student Recruitment & Admissions comments on the eve of SQA results day.

On behalf of the University, I want to congratulate everyone receiving their grades this summer, and celebrate the hard work, resilience and adaptability these grades represent.

Students are the University’s lifeblood, and we look forward to warmly welcoming students to join our University community from across Scotland, the rest of the UK and around the world this September. This diverse mix of students coming to live and study in Edinburgh, from different backgrounds and cultures, is what makes our community so special.

We are especially proud that more students from widening access backgrounds have chosen to study at the University this year – including more care experienced students – than ever before. These students will be supported by generous scholarships, so that they can make their most of their time living and studying at the University of Edinburgh.

Every one of the nearly 6,400 students who join us this September is exceptional. The University received a record number of undergraduate applications this year – close to 78,000 – and competition for places has been particularly intense. After two quite volatile admissions cycles during the Covid-19 pandemic, we’ve worked hard to avoid any over-recruitment this year, and to secure a positive student experience for everyone.

Once again, we won’t have undergraduate Clearing vacancies for students from Scotland or the rest of the UK this August.

We know some applicants who have missed their offer conditions may wish to appeal their grades. The University will be as flexible as possible to accommodate anyone whose grades are subsequently revised upwards. You can find out more about this process on the University website.

Getting Your Results

We have a wealth of resources to help students prepare to join the University.

A Results Helpline will be open on results days this summer, to provide information, advice and guidance to offer holders, and also to those considering making an application next year.

Once again, congratulations to everyone joining us in September – we can’t wait to meet you!
