Natural Environment Research Council
The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) offers research awards in a number of subject areas.
- the solid earth, its physical properties and mineral resources
- inland waters and their living resources
- terrestrial communities, their resources and amenities
- the seas and their living resources
- the atmosphere
PhD Studentships in the above subject areas are provided through Doctoral Training Programmes (DTPs), Centres for Doctoral Training (CDTs) and calls such as Algorithms or CASE Industrial studentships.
Prospective students should normally have at least an upper second-class Honours degree, and an application for PhD study for the relevant year, in order to be considered for a PhD studentship.
Candidates should not apply directly to NERC but rather should indicate that they wish to be considered for a studentship on their postgraduate application form.
Further information is available from the NERC website.
