John L Paterson Postgraduate Design Scholarship

The School of Design, Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) is delighted to announce the John L Paterson PG Design Scholarship. This is open to applicants for postgraduate (PG) study in the School of Design; to the following PG taught Masters programmes: MA Design for Change and MA Interior, Architectural and Spatial Design. The ECA offers a rich and vibrant postgraduate community with a broad range of postgraduate programmes and academic research interests.

Award

One scholarship of £8,000 tenable for one academic year and will be deducted from your tuition fee with any remaining funds being awarded towards living costs.

Please note: if successful in obtaining full funding from any other University of Edinburgh or Research Council funding sources, recipients must relinquish their John L Paterson PG Design Scholarship.

Eligibility

The scholarship award is available to applicants with UK status who apply for admission to postgraduate taught MA programmes in the School of Design commencing in the 2021-2022 academic year. This is open to applicants to the following PG taught Masters programmes: MA Design for Change and MA Interior, Architectural and Spatial Design. Applications for full-time study only will be considered.

Applicants must either be a current ECA undergraduate School of Design student or recent undergraduate alumni (within 5 years of graduation) of the School of Design. Please note: Applicants to Postgraduate Research programmes are not eligible for the John L Paterson PG Design Scholarship.

All scholarship award holders are expected to be energetic members of our postgraduate community, and will engage with opportunities to present their work to the wider student and staff body during the period covered by their award.  We offer our postgraduates a range of training and development opportunities appropriate to their programme of study.

Applying

Applications for the 2021-2022 academic session are no longer being accepted for this scholarship as the 31st of March deadline has now passed. 

Selection Procedure

The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic excellence. Candidates must have, or expect to obtain, the equivalent of a UK first class or 2:1 Honours degree at undergraduate level.

The Selection Panel will meet in April 2021 to review the scholarship applications. All scholarship applicants will be contacted with the outcome by late April/early May 2021.
