There are a number of scholarship schemes available.

School awards

The Graduate School of Social and Political Science is pleased to offer funded PhD awards for 2021-2022 entry.

Alice Brown Scholarship

A 6-year PhD scholarship offering a programme of advanced study, ongoing research,professional training and development.

The Chrystal Macmillan PhD Studentship

This Studentship is offered by the School of Social and Political Science to a new PhD student studying a field relevant to Chrystal Macmillan.

The John Peterson Memorial Fund Bursaries

The School of Social and Political Science is proud to offer two new bursaries in honour of Professor John Peterson and his long career as Professor of International Politics at the University of Edinburgh. The John Peterson Memorial Fund will provide two PhD bursaries of £10,000 each, split across 3 years. These bursaries are available for PhD in Politics students beginning their studies at the School of Social and Political Science in the 2021-2022 academic year.

Macqueen Scholarship

A generous donation from The Julie-Ann Macqueen Trust will fund a PhD in Social Work for students whose research focuses on one-parent families.

The Trudeau Scholarship

The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation are offering Doctoral Scholarships for the 2021-2022 academic session.

The Catto Combined MSc and PhD Scholarships

The Centre of African Studies, University of Edinburgh is pleased to announce the availability of 2 full scholarships for suitable applicants to study for an MSc in Africa and International Development and subsequent PhD in African Studies.
