The Eric Liddell China Saltire Scholarships

The University of Edinburgh will offer 10 scholarships to enable students to study abroad in China during the 2016-2017 academic session.

The Eric Liddell China Saltire Scholarship was set up in 2012 in memory of Eric Liddell who won the men's 400 metres at the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris. Eric Liddell loved China. He was born there in 1902 and spent his early years there. Following his university education at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and his Olympic triumph in Paris, he returned to China to serve as a missionary.

Each scholarship, which will be tenable for one academic year, will have a value of £5,000.

The Scottish Government in partnership with the University of Edinburgh will share the cost of these awards.

Eligibility

The scholarship supports undergraduate students at the University of Edinburgh of any nationality who have secured an outgoing place on a full year study abroad programme in a Chinese University.
