Student Disability Service

Disabled Student Funding

The Student Disability Service can help you to apply for non-means assessed allowances intended to cover the extra costs or expenses that you may incur while studying and which are a direct result of your disability.

Since every student’s circumstances are different, individual funding will normally be discussed during your first appointment with an Advisor.   However, if you wish to make a general enquiry regarding funding, contact us by email disability.service@ed.ac.uk.   Please note that it can take up to 3 months for funding to be awarded.

Important: We cannot help with financial assistance for living costs and fees.  The University’s Scholarships and Student Finance Office can provide further information on this type of support.

UK Students: Disabled Students Allowance (DSA)

Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) is available to undergraduate and postgraduate UK students:

Non UK students

Republic of Ireland Students

Republic of Ireland undergraduate students can apply to the Irish Higher Education Authority (HEA) for funding.

Overseas / EU Students

Funding is available through Disabled Students Support Fund (DSSF) for students who are not eligible for DSA.  This includes Overseas, EU and part-time students taking fewer than 60 credits per year.

Research Councils

Some research councils provide DSA for Postgraduate Research Students.  Please contact an advisor for further advice: disability.service@ed.ac.uk
