Non-EU/EEA/Swiss nationals with a new Student visa

All non-EU/EEA/Swiss nationals entering the UK need to attend an in-person appointment for International Check-in.

If you entered the UK with a vignette (visa sticker) in your passport, you will need to collect your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) once you arrive. This applies to all non-EU/EEA/Swiss nationals, as well as any EU/EEA/Swiss nationals who did not use the UK Immigration: ID Check app.

When you applied for your visa, you will have chosen where to collect your BRP. You can only collect your BRP from the location you chose at that time. You will either collect your BRP as part of your International Check-in at the University, or from the Post Office.

Steps for International Check-in if you are collecting your BRP from the University

Step 1: Take a photo of your passport and upload it to MyEd

You should take a clear, colour photo (or a scan) of the personal details page of your passport.

To upload your passport:

  1. Log in to MyEd.
  2. Select Accounts>Progression>My Student Record.
  3. Click the Immigration tab.
  4. Click ‘Add a new passport’ or ‘Edit information’ for a passport that has already been uploaded.

You must make sure that all fields are completed in the passport section.

Step 2: Book and attend an appointment and collect your BRP

After uploading your passport, you will need to book an appointment for International Check-in. You will need to bring:

  • Your passport;
  • Your Visa Decision Letter
  • Evidence of when you entered the UK.  If you received an entry stamp in your passport when you entered the UK, you can just bring your passport. If you didn’t receive an entry stamp, you will need to bring your boarding pass or another document showing your travel dates.

At the appointment, you will be given your BRP.

Step 3: Make sure the information on your BRP is correct

When you are given your BRP, check it to make sure your personal details, working conditions and visa dates are correct. Your Student visa should cover the full duration of your studies, as stated in your CAS, plus an additional wrap-up period.  You should also check your Visa Decision Letter to make sure you have the correct visa permission.

Please also check you have been granted a Student visa on the correct category and that it is not for a ‘Child Student’.

However, you will need to pick up your BRP before you attend International Check-in and bring it to your appointment.
