Students who have left the UK due to COVID 19

Information for students who have already spent time studying in the UK, but who have left due to COVID 19.

If you already have pre-settled status

If you have already obtained pre-settled status, you can leave the UK for up to 2 years, and it will remain valid.

However, if you are absent from the UK for more than 6 months in any 12 month period you will no longer qualify to apply for settled status at the end of 5 years. There are exceptions to this rule: you are permitted to be absent for one period of up to 12 months for an important reason; for example, if you wish to study abroad for a year, .

The UKVI has confirmed that studying remotely due to Covid-19 will be considered as and important reason for a single absence of up to 12 months.

If you have not yet applied to the EUSS

If you have been in the UK for your current studies, but have left due to Covid 19, and you have not yet applied to the EUSS, you will still be able to do so if you have not been outside the UK for more than 12 months. We strongly recommend that you apply as soon as possible to secure your status under the EU Settlement Scheme.

You can make your application from outside the UK.
