Receiving your immigration permission for the UK

If you make a successful immigration application, you will be issued with one of the following documents:

Receiving your BRP - this only applies to students who have arrived in the UK

Checking your BRP

When you collect your BRP, you should ensure you check the following details:

What if there is an error?

If you think your BRP contains an error, you should report this online.

Report BRP error

IMPORTANT:  You should ensure you report any errors within 10 days of collecting your BRP – if you report the problem later, you might have to apply and pay for a replacement.

Once you have made the report, the Home Office will contact you within 5 working days to give further instructions.

If you applied for your Student route visa within the UK AND the error on your BRP is related to your length of leave or the conditions, then you must apply for an administrative review. Please get in contact with the Student Immigration Service for further advice.

If your BRP expires on 31 December 2024

If your BRP expires on 31 December 2024 but you know your immigration permission should be valid for longer, this is due to a change in UKVI processes rather than being an error.  UKVI have confirmed that they will publish details about how to update your BRP in early 2024.  In the meantime you do not need to take any action and your immigration status will not be affected.

You will be able to check the that your leave has been granted correctly in the following ways:

  • You may find this information in your decision letter; or
  • You will be able to access this information via the UKVI website
