Who needs to provide financial documents

If you're living outside the UK, you will need to prepare financial documents. If you have been living in the UK for at least 12 continuous months, you are exempt from this requirement.

Already living in the UK

If you have been living in the UK for at least 12 months with valid immigration permission, you do not need to meet any financial requirements in order to apply for your visa in the UK.

If you have been living in the UK for less than 12 months or you are applying for your visa outside the UK, you will need to meet the financial requirements.

Not already living in the UK

If you have not been living in the UK for at least 12 months, you'll need to gather documents before you submit your application to prove that you meet the financial requirements.

However, you may not need to submit them with your application depending on your nationality.

Are any nationalities exempt from submitting financial documents?

Certain nationalities are not required to submit documents with their visa application, but they may need to submit them later if UKVI asks for the documents. This is known as the ‘differential evidence requirement’.

For this reason, we advise you to gather your financial documents before submitting your application.
