Summer 2021 graduations

Graduates will be able to celebrate their achievements with friends and loved ones in a series of events at Edinburgh Castle.

Edinburgh Castle and the McEwan Hall

We are delighted to announce that we will be hosting outdoor graduation celebrations at the iconic venue of Edinburgh Castle between 26th and 29th August 2021.

These special events at this unique location will be a celebration of your achievements, and not a graduation ceremony, as you have already officially graduated from the University.

We are hosting them in recognition of all you have achieved, against the backdrop of an incredibly difficult year.

Book your tickets

We are aware that some graduates had issues accessing the booking system for our August celebration events. The platform was removed while these issues were quickly resolved. We apologise for any inconvenience this caused.

Saturday night (28th) is now fully booked. Places remain available for the 26th, 27th and 29th.

Students who graduated in Summer/Winter 2020, and Summer 2021 will be able to book tickets on a first-come-first-served basis.

Each attendee will also be able to bring two guests.

You will be able to choose which date you wish to attend. Cohort groups will not be allocated specific days – so we are recommending early booking to ensure you get the date that you and your friends or family would prefer.

Event programme

Each graduate will be gowned for the event and will pick up their robes at McEwan Hall. You and your guests will then make your way from McEwan Hall to the Castle esplanade.

These events are walking events and each attendee will be provided with a specific start time to assemble on the Castle esplanade.

You will walk over the Castle drawbridge, proceeding to the Great Hall, accompanied by performers from The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

Graduates will then be capped by a senior University representative inside the Great Hall.

You and your party will be walking for 45 minutes. A mobility car will be available to ensure the event is accessible for all.
