Supporting teachers: Biology Early Stage Teaching Accreditation (BESTA)

Biology has instituted a course “Biology Early Stage Teaching Accreditation” (BESTA) to support academic staff new to teaching to think about their teaching in a wider context of what we want to achieve with our students.
It is practically based around planning a short elective, which is a test ground for exploring both preconceptions and different ways of thinking. It is taught collaboratively by Neil Lent (IAD) and Paul McLaughlin (SBS).
Having a specific course for Biologists means it can be tailored to use language and concepts that are familiar to all. It also forms a cohort of staff who will bond over the course and who will hopefully become leaders in the School in future.
