The New Students Survey was open for two weeks for undergraduate and postgraduate students, 30.5% of postgraduate students responded and 19.3% of undergraduate students. We’re happy to report that there is a 5% increase in satisfaction of UGs and PGs with their experience of University so far (89% in 13/14, 94% in 14/15).

More highlights are available on the Induction team’s ‘Student Feedback’ webpage. The full survey analysis will be available by mid-January.

Welcome to Edinburgh App

For the academic year 2014 the Induction team introduce the UoE Events app (provided by Guidebook) which hosted Open Day Guides for Student Recruitment and Admissions as well as a ‘Welcome to Edinburgh’ guide for September Welcome Week. The App was available to download and access on a desktop. It contained all the events by the University and EUSA, which meant everything students needed was in one place.

By the end of Welcome Week we had just over 8000 downloads - approximately 70% of the intake this academic year. Student feedback has been taken into consideration for the January Welcome app that has just gone live.

You can view or download the January Welcome guide from to the New Students website

Academic Induction Events

The Induction team, in collaboration with Staff in Schools and the Institute for Academic Development (IAD), designed and ran six enhanced academic induction events. These included student-led inductions and interactive workshops such as ‘How to Succeed at University’ and the brand new ‘Stepping Up to Honours’. The Induction Team, in collaboration with IAD, and with the support of the University’s Reseacher Experience Committee (REC) are piloting three induction sessions hosted at various times throughout the year. These sessions are aimed at Research students who join their programmes after the September Welcome period.

We successfully ran our first session in November with 32 students attending representing all three Colleges. Participant feedback was collated and 100% of students who attended would recommend this induction session to a friend.
