These teams provide a range of essential services including: student matriculation and fees; scholarships and financial aid; examinations; graduations, and maintaining the electronic student record.
The Timetabling Unit has recently introduced a new Web Timetable service, which enables students to check live timetable information relating to their courses and teaching rooms; enhanced the 'Book Study Space' service to deliver a more flexible and efficient booking system, with a wider range of study spaces to choose from.
Scholarships and Student Funding Services now emails students individually with details of their tuition fee prediction for the next academic session; are available to speak with students until 6pm each weekday; have an online form to prioritise US loans resulting in a quicker and more targeted service for US loan students; and uses Finance Process Manager to accelerate reimbursement of tuition fees paid by year abroad students to international universities.
Student Systems has introduced student self-service enabling students to view and maintain their personal details via a revised MyEd channel and enabled students to view real-time programme and course information, including course results.
Institute for Academic Development
The Institute for Academic Development provides University-level support for teaching, learning and researcher development, to students and staff.
LearnBetter: A major update and reorganisation of our self-access resource, LearnBetter, on Learn; designed to help students develop more effective working and learning strategies so that they can get the most out of their university studies.
New web resources including guidance and factsheets on understanding academic good practice, using sources and referencing, avoiding some common forms of academic misconduct, how to succeed at Masters level, including acclimatising to Masters study, moving into a new discipline, study stress and dissertation advice.
Talking 'Eds: An electronic resource made by students for students. The resource is a friendly welcoming gateway for new students and their expectations of studying at Edinburgh.
Enhanced social media presence, through Twitter and blogs, for postgraduate taught and postgraduate research students.
Enriched online learning resources and guides on specific study topics for masters students, including academic writing, time management, dissertation planning, critical thinking, digital media and much more.
Downloadable PhD planner that provides a concise overview of different stages of a PhD and includes quick tips from other doctoral researchers, plus quick checklists suitable to different stages of the PhD. This is in addition to online courses for PhD students including Postgraduate Essentials, data management, research ethics and academic writing.
