An update on our service offering following the Scottish Government announcement regarding tighter Coronavirus restrictions coming into force from midnight 04 January 2021.

In line with the current Scottish Government and the University of Edinburgh guidelines, we are continually reviewing our activities and the ways in which we can operate to ensure our member and staff's safety and wellbeing.

Information for Specific User Groups

Gym members

Students with a membership that expired on or before 26 December 2020

Student memberships that were due to expire on or before 26 December (Semester 1 or 30 day) will come to an end on their expected expiry date.  We hope that you will choose to renew your membership when we are able to reopen.

Students who purchased a 30-day membership during December

Following the updated guidance delivered to University of Edinburgh students on Thursday 21 January regarding Semester 2 teaching and our ongoing closure, due to Coronavirus restrictions, we have decided to refund, in full, all 30 day student memberships purchased in December. 

Refunds will paid back onto the payment card used to purchase the membership. You do not need to take any action. If you have already requested a refund you can ignore this update.

Due to the volume of refunds to process and our current working from home arrangements the refund process may take a few weeks however we will aim to process all refunds by the end of February 2021. You will receive an email once your refund has been processed

Students with a Semester 2 Membership

Following the updated guidance delivered to University of Edinburgh students on Thursday 21 January regarding Semester 2 teaching and our ongoing closure, due to Coronavirus restrictions, we have decided to refund, in full, all Semester 2 student memberships.

Refunds will paid back onto the payment card used to purchase the membership. You do not need to take any action. If you have already requested a refund you can ignore this update.

Non-student members who have paid for their membership upfront

Memberships that were due to expire on or before 26 December will come to an end on their expected expiry date.  We hope that you will choose to renew your membership when we are able to reopen.

Memberships that were due to exipire on or after 27 December will be frozen and we'll credit you the days lost due to our enforced closure to the end of your membership when we are able to reopen.

Non-student members who pay by Direct Debit

Memberships that were due to expire on or before 26 December will come to an end on their expected expiry date.  We hope that you will choose to renew your membership when we are able to reopen.

Memberships that were due to exipire on or after 27 December will be frozen and we'll credit you the days lost due to our enforced closure to the end of your membership when we are able to reopen.

Collection due to take place on 5 January 2021

The membership payment collection scheduled for 5 January 2021 was processed on Friday 18 December before the University closed for the Festive Break and before the Scottish Government announcement on Saturday 19 December regarding the move to Level 4. Unfortunately, this means we are unable to stop it taking place and your DD membership payment will be collected. We apologise for this and rest assured we will not process any further payments until we are able to reopen. If you wish you may be able to cancel the January payment directly with your bank. If you choose to do this we will be in touch after the Festive Break.

Membership cancellation

Due to the current circumstances membership cancellations  for Student Semester 2 and Non-Student memberships will be considered. If you do wish to cancel and receive a pro-rata refund please contact cse.memberships@ed.ac.uk. If you do choose to cancel your membership you will need to purchase a new membership to use our facilities when we are able to reopen.

Please note that our membership office is closed for the Festive Break until Wednesday 6 January.  A member of the team will get back to you as soon we can in the New Year. 

Personal Trainers

Edinburgh University Sports Union Club Members

Following government guidelines indoor and outdoor sport training is suspended.

Edinburgh University Peformance Athletes and Teams

Following government guidelines indoor  and outdoor sport training is suspended however performance athletes should speak to their coach about any planned training as there are some exceptions which may allow training to take place. 

Individuals booked into NPLQ courses due to start in January 2020
