Rowing at Edinburgh

World-class degrees for world-class rowers.

One of the most highly regarded of its kind in the UK, the University of Edinburgh Performance Sport Programme enables athletes to achieve a world-class degree and perform to the best of their ability.

A world-class city

Edinburgh mixes architectural beauty and history with a lively, fun environment and has regularly been voted as one of the most desirable places to live in the world. As part of our Performance Programme, you will develop your athletic and academic skills in tandem, competing for one of the United Kingdom’s best sporting higher education institutions and studying at a University that is consistently ranked in the top 50 in the world:

  • Over 650 degree programmes
  • Flexible study
  • Ranked 32nd in the world for graduate employability

Leading the way

Our Rowing Performance Sport Programme was founded in 2010 and the University of Edinburgh is also proud to have had Olympic gold medallist Katherine Grainger compete for us during her time here.

A world-class experience

In return for your dedication and hard work, we will offer you world-class training facilities and support to allow you to be the best you can be:

  • 3 full-time and 2 part-time coaches
  • Academic support
  • Lifestyle and nutritional advice
  • Access to the world-renowned FASIC Sport & Exercise Medicine Clinic

Training to be the best

We train up to 12 times a week at venues such as Edinburgh’s Union Canal and Strathclyde Country Park. Our rowers also make use of cutting edge facilities at the Pleasance gym, such as the 22-station Katherine Grainger Rowing Gym, named after the Olympian and Edinburgh graduate, and dedicated Performance Gym.

Compete at the highest level

We are an official GB Rowing Team High Performance Programme and our athletes frequently represent both Great Britain and Scotland. Our rowers also consistently perform at the highest levels domestically in BUCS events, Henley Royal Regatta, Henley Women’s Regatta and the major UK Head races. Top titles have also recently gone to our rowers at the World Indoor Rowing Championships and the Under 23 World Championships.
