Sarah is one of Scotland’s most talented and decorated hockey players, achieving serial success at club and international level, including medal glory at the Olympics.
A talented footballer, representing Scotland up to Under-17 level, the pull of the Olympic and Commonwealth Games encouraged her to switch to hockey, a decision justified by her glittering success.
A strong, tactically savvy and skilful attacking midfielder with an eye for goal, Sarah was a pivotal member of Edinburgh University Women’s Hockey Club. She was a key reason behind the club’s rise and domination of Scottish Hockey, securing National League and Scottish Cup success, and wins at European Club competitions. She was awarded the Captain ST Garner Prize for best athletic performance by a 1st year student (2011-12) and received her University Blue in 2013/14. Sarah also found success off the pitch, graduating with a First Class Law (LLB) Degree in 2017.
Sarah has been a stalwart of the Scotland National team since her debut in 2012, and has gained over 100 international caps in her career so far. This includes representing her country with distinction at two Commonwealth Games (Glasgow 2014 and Gold Coast 2018) and playing a key role in Scotland’s gold medal winning performance at the EuroHockey II Championships.
Since making her GB Hockey debut in 2015, Sarah has racked up over 60 caps, becoming a team regular in the run up to the 2020 Tokyo Games and a central figure in enabling GB women to claim Olympic bronze by scoring in their 4-3 medal-winning match over India.
Sarah now plays her club hockey in the top-flight in England following a spell at KHC Dragons (Belgium) and is in line to represent, and captain, Scotland at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Sarah continues to be an inspirational figure and is a shining example of achieving academic success whilst performing at a world-class level in her sport.
