Swimmers Make Mark at BUCS

This weekend saw a highlight of the University swimming calendar with the BUCS Longcourse Championship. Edinburgh recorded some of their best performances with the Women swimming to triumph against Loughborough University for the first time ever.

Edinburgh’s small team made up of just 10 male and 10 female swimmers finished second overall behind Loughborough scooping an amazing 20+ medals, with Bath in third and Stirling fourth.

There were a number of outstanding swims but 19 year old student Tain Bruce crushed the Scottish fly record she had broken just 14 days previously by 0.6 of a second, which now ranks her 7th in Europe. English swimmer David Cumberlidge dominated his 50m freestyle final by winning by almost a full body length and he topped his weekend off with a silver in 100m freestyle.

Both Kat Greenslade and Kara Hanlon had double wins this weekend with Hanlon claiming Silver in the 200m breaststroke final, Gold in her 100m breaststroke final and Greenslade Gold in both her 200m freestyle and 200m back but also Silver in her 100m backstroke final.

The Women also dominated their 4x100m free relay with an outstanding finish of almost 10 seconds before any other team.

Nick Quinn swam outstandingly to overall two time Olympian Craig Benson in the 200 breast for third.
