Sport & Exercise welcome the Swedish National Team

Ahead of their Rugby Europe Fixture against Switzerland in May Sport & Exercise will host a training camp for the Swedish National Women’s Rugby Team.

During the get together, the team who will utilise the Universities world-class Performance Gym at the Pleasance and 3G Rugby pitch facilities at Peffermill.  The camp will also see the Swedes take part in a training game with students from the Edinburgh University Ladies Rugby Club.

The team recently took part in their first International fixtures for 6 years with victory over Finland (19-7) and a defeat to the Czech Republic (17-5) in November.

As a team we try to meet up for training and playing opportunities as much as we can and being able to do it in quality facilities helps so much with providing opportunities for both the individuals and teams development and we are so happy to be using the facilities at Edinburgh University.

New Sweden Women’s Head Coach Claire Cruikshank, who took up the post in September 2019 alongside her current Head of Performance and Head of Women’s Rugby roles at University of Edinburgh said:

I am really enjoying the role and the challenge, this is the first camp we will have since I took up post so it’s a great opportunity to get some quality time together in great facilities

Cruikshank is assisted by former England centurion International Tamara Taylor who won 115 caps for her country and adds a wealth of experience to the coaching team.

Sport & Exercise has a proud history of supporting visiting national teams to play, train and perform. One of the aims of the proposed development at Peffermill Playing Fields is to continue and build on that tradition. For more information on the proposed plans can be found here.
