New Appointment & New Facilities for Hockey Programme

The Performance Programme at The University of Edinburgh Sport celebrated the appointment of GB-capped Sam Judge as Head of Performance Hockey (Women) at the newly refurbished hockey pitch at Peffermill Playing Fields.

Judge has played hockey in three Commonwealth Games and her distinguished career also includes 199 Senior Scotland Caps. This represents an expansion of her previous role with the hockey team and will see Judge run more individual sessions with athletes and have greater involvement in weekly fixtures. It looks to be the start of an exciting era for the Club as they enter a new semester, fresh from winning the domestic treble (Scottish League, Scottish Cup and European Play Offs) and their Eurohockey Championships group.

This is a great opportunity for me to develop Women’s Hockey at the University of Edinburgh and I can’t wait to see what the Club achieves this year, especially with these enhanced facilities at Peffermill to help our training.

Sam JudgeHead of Performance Hockey (Women)

We welcome Sam aboard Team Sport & Exercise with open arms. She has a fantastic career on and off the pitch and we are very privileged she has now taken on this enhanced role with us. It is very fortuitous that we can now offer Clubs and customers our new hockey pitch at Peffermill, too.

New Facilities

Platinum Cool Plus carpet has been fitted at Peffermill. The material is also used at national performance hockey centres at Bisham Abbey and Glasgow Green. Polytan supplied hockey surfacing for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and developed this product in consultation with performance hockey players and coaches.

The installation represents a £360,000 investment in Peffermill and is the first phase of a £3.15 million masterplan for outdoor sport at the University of Edinburgh.
