New 3G Project Kicks off at Peffermill

Work has now begun on a new 3G and six new 5-a-side 'MUGA' (Multi-use Games Areas) pitches at the University’s outdoor sport facility at Peffermill.

The new pitches, which represent an investment of over £1.5 million into outdoor sport facilities, are the second phase of the University’s Master Plan for Sport at Peffermill and follow the installation of a new Olympic-grade hockey carpet earlier this year.

The new 3G pitch, which is finished with the same material recently installed on the English Football Association’s new David Beckham Pitch at St Georges Park, will be tested to FIFA quality standards and will offer a 105m x 68m football pitch, be fully floodlit and will benefit from a full-pitch-length, standing spectator zone.

The six new 5-a-side ‘MUGA’ pitches will also be floodlit and are finished with a surface specifically designed for high use areas and engineered to accommodate all types of footwear.

As well as the new pitches, a new purpose designed training zone is being added and will offer a dedicated multi-use surface for specialised training and drills.

Providing additional synthetic surfaces at Peffermill will help meet the growing demand for outdoor sport facilities by University Sport Clubs and the University’s market-leading Intramural Programme. With the ultimate aim of creating an inspiring, world-class environment for the students and staff of the University and the wider community.
