A message from our Director of Sport & Exercise

Following recent events, Director of Sport of Exercise Jim Aitken MBE shares a message for our community.

Over recent days there has been widespread social media and press coverage relating to an incident involving a member of staff at University of Edinburgh Sport & Exercise. We would like to assure you that this matter has been addressed.

The safety and security of our members, users and customers is at the heart of everything we do and is central to our core value of being open to everybody. We support and champion messages of inclusion, participation and diversity through campaigns such as ‘Don’t Cross the Line’ and #NoExcuse. We are absolutely committed to providing and promoting a culture of mutual dignity and respect.

We always seek to learn lessons from cases like this and are actively reviewing our current processes, staff training and structure to ensure we continue to uphold our values of being welcoming, fair and equal to everybody.

All staff at Sport & Exercise stand ready to play our part in working with the rest of the University and others to ensure a positive, safe, secure and inclusive atmosphere in all we do.

If you would like to get in touch we are always open to member feedback. You can contact us by email or via our "We're Listening" contact form.

Yours faithfully,

Jim Aitken MBE
