Just Play Sport Sessions

The just play sport sessions are open to all our University students and staff of all abilities and are an opportunity to try a new sport, get active and make new friends.

These free sessions allow our students and staff to play various sports while being coached by one of our Active Lives Assistants.

Pickleball at the Pleasance Sports Complex & Gym

Our Active Lives team is excited to invite you to come along and try out  Pickleball in the Sports Hall. Pickleball is a relatively new and exciting sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. Players use paddles to hit a perforated plastic ball over a net. 

Our friendly and knowledgeable instructors will be present to ensure that everyone has a great time while also providing guidance and support throughout the session. The session is open to people of all abilities and skill levels, so whether you are a beginner or an experienced player, you are welcome to join us.

This is a perfect opportunity to have fun, meet new people, and stay active. 

When:

  • For 10 weeks every Monday from 22 January to 25 March 2024
  • From 11am to 12pm

 

Bouldering at the Pleasance Sports Complex & Gym

Scale new heights this New Year with our Just Play climbing sessions at the bouldering wall. Bouldering is a form of rock climbing without ropes or harnesses, Climbers wear special shoes and use chalk to ascend short but challenging routes called "problems". Safety is ensured through crash pads on the ground. It's a great way to improve climbing skills and agility in a more accessible setting than traditional rock climbing. It's perfect for beginners and provides a chance to experience climbing for the first time with qualified instructors overseeing the sessions. Our climbing wall offers a unique, welcoming, fun, and inclusive community – come along and be part of it!

When:

  • For 4 weeks every Monday 22 January to 12 February 2024
  • From 12pm to 1pm

 

Table Tennis at Kings Building 

Want to add some movement into your lunch break but only have a spare 30 minutes? Look no further! New for this semester, we are now offering students and staff the opportunity to play some table tennis alongside our Active Lives team at the outdoor table tennis area on King’s Buildings campus. All equipment will be provided, although you are welcome to bring your own if you wish.

When:

  • For 6 weeks every Tuesday from 6 February to 12 March 2024
  • From 12:30pm to 1pm

 

Beginners Football at Peffermill Playing Fields 

Join our Active Lives team for a beginner's football session at Peffermill. During the sessions, you will learn the fundamentals of football through drills and games. Our coaches will offer guidance and encouragement to improve your skills and build your confidence. These football sessions are aimed at complete beginners. 

When:

  • For 10 weeks every Friday from 26 January to 29 March 2024
  • From 4pm to 5pm

 

Football at Peffermill Playing Fields 

Looking for a fun way to get active and improve your football skills? Join our Active Lives team for a Just Play Football session at Peffermill! During these sessions, you'll learn new drills and have a kickabout. Our coaches will provide you with guidance and support to help you improve your technique and build your confidence. These football sessions are open to everyone, regardless of age, gender, or skill level. 

When:

  • For 10 weeks every Friday from 26 January to 29 March 2024
  • From 5pm to 6pm

 

Basketball at the Pleasance Sports Complex & Gym

Our Active Lives team is excited to invite you to a Just Play basketball session in the Sports Hall. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to learn the fundamentals of basketball and improve your skills in a fun and engaging environment. Our experienced coaches will be on hand to guide you through the session and teach you everything you need to know about the sport.

We welcome everyone to join us, regardless of your previous experience with basketball. Whether you're a complete beginner or have played before, our sessions are designed to cater to all levels.

During the session, you'll learn about the basic rules of basketball, as well as the essential techniques and strategies that will help you become a better player. You'll be able to practice your shooting, dribbling, passing, and teamwork skills, while also getting a great workout and having fun with a group of like-minded individuals.

When:

  • For 6 weeks every Friday from 26 January to 29 March 2024
  • From 4pm to 5pm

 

Volleyball at thPleasance Sports Complex & Gym

We invite you to join us at the Sports Hall for a fun and engaging volleyball session. One of our Active Lives instructors will lead the session and will guide you through the fundamentals of the game in a supportive and relaxed environment. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned player, this session is suitable for all skill levels. You'll have the opportunity to learn new techniques, practice your skills, and meet like-minded individuals in the process. 

When:

  • For 4 weeks every Friday from 8 March to 29 March 2024
  • From 4pm to 5pm

 

Badminton at the Pleasance Sports Complex & Gym

Come join along and try out badminton in the Sports Hall at the Pleasance. Badminton is a fun and energetic sport that provides an excellent workout for your entire body. During the session, we will teach you all the essential skills and techniques you need to play badminton, including serving, forehand and backhand shots, and footwork. 

Our coaches will ensure that you have a great time while you learn, and you will have the opportunity to meet new people in a friendly and supportive environment. The event is open to everyone, regardless of age or skill level, so come along and experience the thrill of badminton for yourself.

When:

  • Friday 26 January 2024 2pm – 3pm
  • Friday 2 February 2024 2pm – 3pm
  • Friday 16 February 2024 2pm – 3pm
  • Friday 22 March 2024 2pm – 3pm
  • Friday 29 March 2024 2pm – 3pm

 

What do I need to bring?

A pair of comfy trainers, a water bottle, and a smile.
