Alcohol evidence in policy and practice

Join SPECTRUM and the University of Stirling for this knowledge exchange workshop, focused on policies and practice related to alcohol. Taught by a range of world-leading academics and practitioners.

Who is organising the workshop?

The Institute for Social Marketing and Health at the University of Stirling, under the auspices of the UKPRP Consortium ‘Shaping Public Health Policies to Reduce Inequalities & Harm’ (SPECTRUM).


The workshop is open to all interested colleagues who can attend in person, in line with Scottish Government public health guidance.

Previous participants include those working in public health, local and national alcohol policy, or those new to alcohol research or practice.

Applicants will be subject to SPECTRUM’s policy on declarations of interest and interactions with commercial sector organisations, for example, those with links to the alcohol industry will not be permitted to attend.    


The early bird workshop fee is £499 until 30th September; thereafter the fee is £599. The cost covers lunches, refreshments and a networking dinner on the first evening. Accommodation is not included but can be booked for you on request, subject to availability.

A limited number of SPECTRUM scholarships are available to support the attendance of UK colleagues working in policy, advocacy or practice. These can be applied for upon registration, with a deadline of 30th September.

The venue

Norton House Hotel was built in 1840 and is one of the best meeting venues in Edinburgh, thanks to its location, 5 minutes from Edinburgh Airport and 20 minutes from the city centre. The hotel has a swimming pool and spa facilities, and guests can enjoy free Wi-Fi and onsite parking.

Specially negotiated rates of £126 per night B&B or £150 for DB&B are available to those booking at the time of registration. Accommodation is subject to availability.
