About us
We manage high-profile and special events at the University of Edinburgh, and provide guidance on events management and protocol.

The University of Edinburgh is an ancient institution and a leading international centre of academic excellence. Our role is to ensure that all high-profile events are memorable occasions that reflect this history and stature.
Special events and ceremonies
We lead on the planning and delivery of special events and ceremonies.
High-profile visits
We liaise with the Chancellor’s Office to organise royal visits to the University. We also manage official visits, including from heads of state and senior politicians, ensuring that protocol is followed.
Annual University events
We organise annual University events for students, staff and members of the public.
Examples include:
- Principal's Welcome Ceremony
- Receptions for new and long-serving members of staff
- Remembrance Day Service
- Flagship lecture programmes
- Special degree ceremonies for honorary graduates
We do not organise the summer and winter graduations - these are managed by Student Administration. We do, however, manage the summer and winter honorary graduation dinners, which are hosted by the Principal of the University.
Events and protocol guidance
We provide advice and guidance on University events and protocol issues.
