General tips
As an international student, there are a few particular issues to keep in mind while filling out your application.
Your personal statement
Your personal statement is important for a number of reasons. It demonstrates that you can write good English, as well as your motivation for your chosen course of study, which is particularly important for mature applicants (aged 21 or over on date of entry).
References
Check that your referees understand how to fill out their forms correctly. Tell them to make sure that their writing or typing is clear.
Also, tell your referees to comment on the subjects shown on page 29 and 30 of the UCAS booklet and to write in English.
Ask them to comment on your ability to write in English, as well as compare you to others in your class.
Listing your qualifications
Include all details in sections 7A and 7B of the UCAS form.
Give full details of all your qualifications. Do not give a UK equivalent. The University has much experience in evaluating qualifications from around the world.
Give the title of the qualification in the original language. Use the original script (for example, Greek or Arabic) and give a translation including a brief description of the type of qualification it is.
Contact your nearest British Council office for help with translations. If your first language is not English but your qualifications were completed or partly assessed in English, make this clear.
You should also include details of any English language tests you have taken or plan to take. Do not send UCAS any qualification papers.
Send these to us with the title, code number of the course and your UCAS number.
