International Women’s Day seminar

Inspiring talks on the career path to professorship and public engagement with science in Africa.

On 7th March 2019 the Institute hosted two special talks to celebrate International Women’s Day.

Professor Alison Hulme gave an inspiring talk about her career path, challenges and achievements, concluding that chemistry is an interdisciplinary science that needs (more) women.

Her talk was followed by Dr Tim Conneley who talked about the work of the International Veterinary Vaccinology Network (IVVN) is doing in several countries in Africa and how its programmes aim at inspiring the next generation of female scientists in Africa.

As a result of one of the IVVN programmes, the Roslin public engagement team has spent a week in Kenya training scientists in engaging students with science.
