Eureka! I have an invention… now what?

A drop-in session to explain intellectual property

On 5 October, our staff and students had the opportunity to join Edinburgh Innovations in a questions and answers session to help demystify intellectual property.

The dedicated Edinburgh Innovations team  ̶  the University of Edinburgh’s commercialisation service  ̶  covered the following aspects:

  • What is intellectual property?
  • I am involved in research – what do I need to know?
  • I have an idea - can my idea be patented?
  • What is the patenting process? What do I need to do?
  • Support available

The audience could ask questions about confidentiality, public disclosures, publication of research results, patents, licensing, costs, who pays, and any other questions.

The session was presented by Sue Bruce, Technology Transfer Manager at Edinburgh Innovations.
