On 5 May 2020 , Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), part of UK Research and Innovation, have delivered an online seminar to the University of Edinburgh on the Council’s translational funding and awards.

Special guidance on the Follow-On-Fund has been given by BBSRC’s David Hendry, FoF Portfolio Manager of Capability and Innovation and Adam Bowen, Joint Head of Knowledge Exchange and Commercialisation.

The fund supports the translation of research into practical application, including commercialisation. The aim of the programme is to help researchers maximise the societal and economic benefits of their research.

Dr Xavier Donadeu, research group leader at the Roslin Institute, who has recently been successful in securing a Follow-On-Fund, talked about his journey through the application and why this fund fitted his work.

Attendees included members of staff who have an idea that could be applied in an industrial setting but can’t find a company to support its development, who need funding for a market research assessment, or want to know more about translational research and procedures.
