Functional Annotation of Animal Genomes
A project to establish high quality functional annotation of animal genomes.

We were key initiators of the international Functional Annotation of Animal Genomes (FAANG) project, which aims to establish high quality functional annotation of animal genomes. Our contributions to FAANG include:
- A greatly improved pig reference genome sequence as a framework for annotation
- Extensive transcript sequences using both long and short read RNA-seq technologies for sheep, chicken, buffalo and pig
- Exemplar ChIP-seq data for genome sites in pig and chicken occupied by modified histones
Through BBSRC-funded collaborative projects with EMBL-EBI we are contributing to the Data Coordination Centre function for FAANG and using the Ensembl system to provide access to the functional annotation.
