Eiríkur Andri Thormar [former visitor]

Visitor

In 2022, Eiríkur joined the aquaculture team as a visitor from Copenhagen.

Current research

I am a PhD fellow in the group of Morten Limborg at the University of Copenhagen, investigating host-microbiota interactions from a hologenomic perspective.

My focus is on investigating the effects host-genetics have on its associated microbiota using multi-omic layers from both the host and the microbiota. I have been focusing on a zebrafish CRISPR/Cas knock-out model to investigate this in an ongoing collaboration between my home lab and a zebrafish lab led by Associate Professor Louise von Gersdorff Jørgensen.

I am very excited to be visiting the Robledo group to investigate amoebic gill disease (AGD) resistance in Atlantic salmon, in a hologenomic context, and to learn from their expertise in quantitative genetics and functional genomics.

 

Favourite aquaculture species

Salmo salar (Atlantic salmon) because they are amazing, strange and tasty.

Interests, hopes and dreams

I'm an adequate clarinet player, lover of music (particularly classical), a fan of fly-fishing, and a bookworm when I'm bothered.
