Students of the Infectious Diseases and One Health (IDOH) Erasmus MSc programme and the MSc in Animal Biosciences are using the labs at Roslin Innovation Centre.

This is the second year the cohort is being hosted at Roslin Innovation Centre’s Research Hotel, which provides state-of-the art office and lab space.

The students are utilising bench space as well as tissue culture hoods and incubators.

European mobility

IDOH is a partnership of some of Europe's leading research-intensive universities in the field of infectious diseases and the one health concept, which seeks to improve health in people, animals and for the benefit of the environment.

The three founding partners are Université de Tours, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the University of Edinburgh. Most of the teaching will be done at the Roslin Institute.

The two-year IDOH MSc programme attracts students from all over the world. This year30 students, representing 20 countries, are spending three weeks in the Research Hotel.

State-of-the-art lab

This innovative postgraduate programme in infectious diseases focuses on the three aspects of the One Health concept: humans, animals and the environment, so it is an ideal fit for Easter Bush campus and the state-of-the-art facilities at our Research Hotel.

John MackenzieCEO at Roslin Innovation Centre

When we were designing the new IDOH course, we knew we required excellent lab facilities which could accommodate the increased number of students.

It is also important that this truly international cohort of future researchers and policy makers have an excellent learning experience and leave with the view that Edinburgh is a world leader in the biosciences.

The quality of the facilities available at the Research Hotel and the assistance from John Mackenzie and his team at Roslin Innovation Centre will help us achieve these aims.
