Laboratory for Bacterial Evolution and Pathogenesis (LBEP)

Bryan A Wee

Research Fellow

Bryan Wee

Bryan joined the Fitzgerald Group as a postdoctoral research fellow early 2016. His research involved using whole genome sequencing data to study the evolution of important bacterial pathogens including Legionella and Staphylococci.

He completed his undergraduate studies majoring in Zoology at the National University of Malaysia (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia). He then went on to do his Masters and PhD at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia with Associate Professor Scott Beatson in the field of bacterial genomics. During his PhD, he investigated the co-evolution of a family of mobile genetic elements within gamma-Proteobacteria (Legionella and Peudomonas). He then worked as a research associate with Dr Willa Huston on the genomics of Chlamydia trachomatis at Queensland University of Technology.

In 2019, he left to join the University of Edinburgh Epigroup, although he remains an active collaborator with LBEP for their research on Legionella.
