National Avian Research Facility Logo

The mission of the National Avian Research Facility (NARF) is to improve the productivity, health and welfare of poultry through research on host-pathogen interactions, avian genetics, development and physiology using state-of-the-art technologies.

Founded in 2013 in partnership with The Pirbright Institute, NARF is supported by the University of Edinburgh, BBSRC, Roslin Foundation and Wellcome Trust. NARF provides valuable resources for the study of avian biology. These include inbred lines differing in disease resistance; inbred and outbred lines at specified pathogen-free status; unique transgenic lines for the study of avian development and immunity; expertise in genome modification, genotyping and genome analysis and primordial germ cell technology for archiving genetic diversity.
