Bioinformatics
The Roslin Bioinformatics Team supports bioinformatics activites across the Institute.
Out team provides internal Institute-specific development, training, and support roles for high performance compute and storage access; data processing and wrangling; gene expression analysis (including single-cell work); sequence analysis; and other aspects of the analysis of biological data using computer systems.
The team comprises Dr Donald Dunbar and Dr Sébastien Guizard and is led by Dr Andy Law (Head of Research Computing). You can contact us by email on roslin.bioinformatics@roslin.ed.ac.uk and in person on the first floor (1-169) of the Roslin Institute.
Our main activities include:
- Single cell/nucleus and spatial gene expression analysis
- Genome science (especially genome annotation)
- Bioinformatics training: we run an extensive training programme focussing on R, Linux, single cell analysis, data & code hygiene, and bioinformatics workflows
- Helping our colleagues to access the University's and Institute's high performance compute and storage facilities
Out team helps with bioinformatics components of funding applications. Please contact us as early as possbble in the process: roslin.bioinformatics@roslin.ed.ac.uk
For more details of our work, including the up to date training schedule, see our Roslin Bioinformatics Wiki space (UoE login required).
The team also provides databases and applications supporting the international animal science community. These include:
resSpecies, ArkDB, ArkMAP, GMD data format, Genotype Checker, VIPER, Haplofinder, JEnsembl, DISSECT
Please contact the team if you require access to any of these tools roslin.bioinformatics@roslin.ed.ac.uk
