Current work aims to find genetic associations with phenotypes of interest in different African chicken breeds ie. Environmental adaptation, robust immune response, increased productivity.
Whole genome sequencing of birds from different regions in different African countries is being used to identify variants of interest.
MHC haplotyping of these bird genomes is also underway as is examination of the endogenous retroviral content.
