Dolly the Sheep: Major Discovery or Minor Distraction?
Thursday 25th August, The Stand in the Square, St Andrew Square
20 years after her birth, Dolly the Sheep is a scientific and Scottish icon. However, she was only ever a small part of a much bigger research programme and the cloning technique used to produce her has now been overtaken by newer, better technologies. So should we still be talking about Dolly or should we all follow science’s example and just move on? Join Professor Helen Sang (Roslin Institute), Dr Tilo Kunath (MRC Centre for Regenerative Medicine) and Dr Miguel Garcia Sancho Sanchez (School of Social and Political Science) to debate whether Dolly has a place in the 21st century or if she should be consigned to the history books.
Part of the Cabaret of Dangerous Ideas run by the Beltane Network and The Stand comedy club.
