Information about University Research Facilities
Find Library resources - both print and online - and access the University's Special Collections materials, including rare books, archives, musical instruments and art collections.
Research Data Service
The Research Data Service is provided by experts across Information Services. They aim to provide the tailored support researchers need throughout the research lifecycle, whether you are creating new datasets or reusing existing data.
Research Data Management (RDM) is the methodical handling of the information produced or re-used during the course of academic research.
It is a policy requirement of many funders and a legal responsibility. The outcomes of good RDM are that the rights of data subjects/owners are protected and that data is archived towards the end of research so that it remains available for validation of results, and potentially for future re-use.
Edinburgh Compute & Data Facility | Eddie
The compute component of Edinburgh Compute and Data Facility (ECDF), known as Eddie, offers a number of services aimed to satisfy as best as possible all researchers' computational requirements.
Edinburgh Computing Regulations
These Regulations govern the use of all University computing and network facilities by staff, students and anyone else authorised to use them.
Edinburgh Clinical Research Facility
Edinburgh Clinical Research Facility provides state of the art facilities to support multidisciplinary clinical research locally, nationally and internationally. A joint venture between University of Edinburgh and NHS Lothian, Edinburgh CRF was one of only five facilities in the UK to receive Wellcome Trust Millennium funding. Our Scientific Cores and Specialist support teams have many years’ experience in supporting high quality, high impact research.
Edinburgh Imaging are an academic hub of expertise in medical imaging, pre-clinical imaging, veterinary imaging, image analysis, microscopy, imaging trial management & imaging education. Our facilities & equipment are spread across several campuses in & around Edinburgh. Our community has a wide variety of training & skills, & includes academics, doctors, veterinarians, radiographers, analysts, processors, information technologists & managers.
Edinburgh International Data Facility
The Edinburgh International Data Facility brings together regional, national and international datasets to create new products, services, and research. It is funded by the UK and Scottish Governments under the Data Driven Innovation Programme of the Edinburgh and South-East Scotland City Region Deal.
Bioresearch Veterinary Services
Bioresearch & Veterinary Services (BVS) are responsible for the housing, care and management of animals used in biomedical research at the university as well as the provision of Home Office, veterinary and technical support for our scientific staff to ensure high quality research, optimal animal welfare and compliance with all relevant legislation. All the information to help you get started is linked below.
National Avian Research Facility
The NARF provides resources for avian biology research, particularly embryos and birds from chicken lines and Japanese quail. It comprises two units: one standard poultry facility and a second that has specified pathogen free (SPF) status. Resources include expertise in genome engineering in the chicken, and a range of poultry lines. The lines maintained include layer and broiler chickens and GMO chicken lines including ubiquitous and inducible fluorescent reporter lines, particularly useful in developmental biology and immunology research. The SPF unit houses inbred and closed outbred chicken lines for immunology research and has capability for gene-editing under SPF conditions.
