Animal research

Our research

Read summaries of research projects taking place at Edinburgh.

Researchers write a short summary of their proposed research project as part of the project licence application process, known as a non-technical summary. This summary, written in accessible language, includes:

  • The purpose of the research
  • The animals used in the research
  • The benefits of the research
  • The expected harms to the animals
  • The application of the three ‘Rs’ in the research

Once a project licence has been granted by the Home Office, the non-technical summary is published on its website.

As part of our commitment to the Concordat on Openness on Animal Research, we are publishing our own summaries of research currently being carried out at the University. These cover similar themes as the non-technical summaries prepared during the Home Office licence application process, but are presented in a different format.

We will add to the list of projects featured as new licences are granted.
